New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and India wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma, who played a key role in RCB’s title-winning campaign this year, shared insights on the lessons he has learned from legendary Virat Kohli and how they have shaped his game.

Speaking on the latest episode of the RCB Podcast on the franchise’s YouTube channel, Jitesh reflected on a stellar season as a finisher. He scored 261 runs in 11 innings at an average of 37.28 and a strike rate of 176.35. Among his standout performances were an unbeaten 85 against Lucknow Super Giants* in the last league game to secure a Qualifier spot, and a quickfire 24 in the final.

On his interactions with Kohli, Jitesh said, “I’ve been learning from him from the far end. We talked about my intensity in the game and how he manages it. Maintaining aggression while staying clear-minded is tough. People say when you are calm, you make better decisions.”

He added, “But Virat is full of energy and still plays his game smartly—running hard, taking twos. I asked him how he manages that. He said his intense training makes match situations feel easier.”

Jitesh also highlighted the importance of small goals on off-days and staying energized throughout a match. Recalling Kohli’s advice on dealing with struggles at the crease, he said, “He told me to come back to zero, focus on running hard, and middle the ball. Small tricks like taking a breather between balls help calm your nerves and make better decisions.”

On running between the wickets, Jitesh said he enjoys partnering with Kohli, noting, “I blindly trust my partner. If he runs, I run. He’ll enjoy running with me, I’m sure.”

Jitesh is currently part of India’s squad for the Asia Cup in UAE, having played seven T20Is and scored 100 runs so far.
