Srinagar: The J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday said it has trapped and arrested a Junior Engineer along with two other employees of the PDD, Pakherpora, Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam, red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.
According to sources, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Mohammad Irfan Ganaie, Junior Engineer in the Electric Department posted at Pakherpora, Charar-i-Sharief, was demanding ₹5,000 as a bribe through two subordinate employees for the relocation of an HT line running adjacent to the complainant’s house.
The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB for legal intervention. Following the complaint, the matter was discreetly verified by a designated ACB officer in Srinagar. Based on the findings and recommendations of the verification, a prima facie case under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amended 2018) read with Section 61(2) BNS, was made out against the PDD employees:
- Mohammad Irfan Ganaie, Junior Engineer PDD, S/o Mohammad Sultan Ganaie, R/o Kamrazipora, Pulwama
- Abid Hussain Wani, Lineman, S/o Ab. Rashid Wani, R/o Pakherpora, Charar-i-Sharief
- Sajad Ahmad Mir, PDL, S/o Ab. Rashid Mir, R/o Pakherpora, Charar-i-Sharief
FIR No. 17/2025 was registered at PS ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was launched.
During the course of the investigation, a trap team was deployed to Pakherpora, Charar-i-Sharief, Budgam. The team successfully caught the trio red-handed while demanding and accepting the ₹5,000 bribe from the complainant.
The statement added that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
