Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has made a major cash recovery of over ₹35 lakh following a successful trap operation against a Patwari posted at Patwar Halqa Dadui in Samba district.

The Bureau registered FIR No. 19/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the accused public servant, Sunil Kumar, for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a complainant.

According to officials, the accused had initially demanded a bribe of ₹1,00,000 for preparing a report sought by the Tehsildar Samba regarding correction of Girdawari in the complainant’s case. After negotiation, the demand was reduced to ₹80,000. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB to take legal action.

Following a discreet verification, the allegations were found credible, and a case was formally registered. Subsequently, a trap team was constituted, which successfully caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. The Patwari was immediately arrested, and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession.

During a subsequent search of the accused’s personal vehicle, the ACB recovered a huge sum exceeding ₹35 lakh in cash. Searches were also conducted at his residence in the presence of magistrates.

The ACB has stated that further investigation in the case is underway.
