SRINAGAR: Parvez Rasool, a trailblazer in Jammu and Kashmir cricket, has announced his retirement from all formats of the game after a distinguished 17-year career.

Rasool holds the distinction of being the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to represent India in international cricket and the first from the region to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Over his illustrious domestic career, the all-rounder from Bijbehara, Kashmir, accumulated 5,648 runs and took 352 wickets in First-Class cricket. On Saturday, the 36-year-old officially informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his decision to retire.

“When we started playing, not many took Jammu and Kashmir cricket seriously. But over the years, we managed to defeat some big teams and make our mark in the Ranji Trophy and other BCCI tournaments. Leading the team for a long time and contributing to its success gives me immense satisfaction,” Rasool said emotionally.

Although his international career was limited to just two appearances—one ODI and one T20I—Rasool remained a pillar of consistency in domestic cricket. His exceptional performances earned him the Lala Amarnath Award for Best All-Rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice, in 2013–14 and 2017–18, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential figures in Jammu and Kashmir cricket history.
