Jammu: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced the appointment of election incharges and co-incharges for the upcoming byelections to two assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

Bypolls for the Budgam and Nagrota assembly seats are scheduled for November 11, with the counting of votes to be held on November 14.

The Budgam seat fell vacant on October 21, 2024, after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had contested from two constituencies, decided to retain Ganderbal. The Nagrota seat became vacant on October 31, 2024, following the demise of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana.

During a meeting of the party’s election committee at its headquarters in Jammu, the BJP finalized the panel of names for both constituencies and constituted an election management committee to oversee the entire electoral process.

According to a party spokesperson, Jammu North MLA Sham Lal Sharma has been appointed as the election incharge for Nagrota, with former MLA and BJP vice-president Bharat Bhushan named as co-incharge. For Budgam, BJP general secretary Mohammed Anwar Khan will serve as election incharge, while Imtyaz Ahmad Bhat, general secretary of the BJP Minority Morcha, will be the co-incharge.

The spokesperson added that these appointments, made under the guidance of the party’s senior leadership, aim to ensure effective coordination, swift decision-making, and smooth management of all election-related activities in both constituencies.
