Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hamid Karra on Sunday said the party’s top leadership in the Union Territory will discuss the outcome of deliberations held between the Congress high command in Delhi and the National Conference (NC) regarding the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for October 24.

Karra, who heads the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), said the party’s core group will decide the future course of action after detailed discussions on the matter.

“We have convened a meeting of the party’s core committee to brief them about the deliberations between the central leadership and the NC,” Karra told reporters in Srinagar ahead of the meeting.

He added that the views of the JKPCC core group would be sought before taking the final decision.

Senior Congress leaders from both Kashmir and Jammu regions are attending the meeting at the party headquarters to chalk out the strategy for the upcoming elections to the four Rajya Sabha seats in the Union Territory.

On Friday, the National Conference announced candidates for three Rajya Sabha seats, leaving one seat open while talks with the Congress were still underway.

The Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir are slated for October 24.
