Jammu: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday said that structures damaged in the recent floods across the Jammu region would be rebuilt with improved specifications to better withstand future calamities.
Singh visited flood-hit villages in Bajalta and Pargalta panchayats of Jammu district to assess the destruction caused to houses and bridges by torrential rain, flash floods, and landslides.
“The damaged structures will be reconstructed with enhanced specifications, taking lessons from the recent floods, so that they are resilient against similar disasters in the future,” he said.
Over the past few weeks, Singh has toured his Udhampur constituency and other flood-affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, meeting disaster-hit families from Chisoti in Kishtwar to villages along the Indo-Pak border in Kathua and Samba.
He also reviewed ongoing restoration work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which was closed for more than 10 days following multiple landslides and road cave-ins.
Accompanied by local MLA Yudhvir Sethi and officials from the Union Territory administration, Singh inspected severely affected sites in Bain Bajalta, Tutan Di Khoi, Anthan, Badoon, Khana Shargal and Chalni in Jammu East constituency. He directed the Roads & Buildings and Public Health Engineering departments to speed up restoration work in the affected areas.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, Singh assured that efforts were underway to restore essential services. Later, during his visit to Pargalta panchayat, he inspected flood damage to shops and public property and said loss estimates, including those for crops, were being prepared.
