Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday appealed to the Central government to announce a relief package for Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the destruction caused by recent rain-induced disasters in the Union Territory.

“The floods, cloudbursts and landslides have wreaked havoc across Jammu and Kashmir, with Jammu suffering the worst impact. Precious lives have been lost, homes washed away, infrastructure damaged and families rendered destitute,” Mufti wrote on social media platform X.

She urged the Centre to announce an assistance package on the lines of the one provided after the 2014 floods, while stressing that “special focus must be given to Jammu, which has borne the brunt this time.”

Calling for close coordination between the Union government and the J&K administration, Mufti said it was vital to ensure that the affected people receive timely help and are not left to struggle on their own during the crisis.
