Srinagar, November 29, 2025:Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday emphasised the vital role of poets, writers and intellectuals in safeguarding national unity, asserting that creative voices must actively counter secessionist narratives and contribute to strengthening the idea of India.

Speaking at a literary event in Srinagar, the Lt Governor said that the pen has historically been a powerful force in shaping societies, and today’s writers have a responsibility to guide the youth towards constructive thought, harmony and progress. He noted that divisive ideologies thrive when the intellectual space is left unattended.

“Poets and writers have always been the conscience-keepers of any nation. At a time when attempts are being made to mislead the youth and distort historical facts, it becomes even more important for the literary community to dispel falsehoods and counter secessionist narratives,” the Lt Governor said.

He added that Jammu & Kashmir has a rich tradition of literature, culture and syncretic thought, and that the younger generation must be encouraged to draw inspiration from the works of great poets and scholars who championed peace, unity and cultural pride.

The Lt Governor also highlighted the government’s initiatives to promote cultural activities, support local authors, and preserve the region’s linguistic heritage. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for artists and intellectuals to flourish.

“Our cultural institutions are being strengthened, and platforms are being expanded so that creative minds can express themselves freely and contribute to nation-building,” he said.

The event concluded with poetry recitations and felicitations of prominent writers for their contributions to Kashmiri and Dogri literature.
