Ramban: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Friday visited Gadhgaram in Rajgarh Tehsil, where five people lost their lives in a recent cloudburst.

Sharma met the bereaved families, offered condolences, and assured them of full support from the Centre and the administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. He said the government is committed to providing relief and rehabilitation to those affected by the cloudburst and subsequent flash floods.

During the visit, Sharma assessed the ground situation, reviewed the damage, and identified areas requiring urgent government attention. He assured families that steps would be taken to help them rebuild their lives.

Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, with teams working to trace missing persons and provide essential aid. Officials have been deployed to coordinate with residents and ensure immediate assistance.

Meanwhile, in Tanger area of Ramban, several houses have developed cracks due to suspected land subsidence following continuous heavy rainfall. The administration has declared the area unsafe and advised residents to vacate temporarily.

Ramban MLA Arjun Singh Raju, along with the Deputy Commissioner and District Development Council members, inspected the site and assured residents of relocation to safer places and compensation for losses.

“There is an atmosphere of panic. At night we received calls about sinking land, and by morning reports suggested subsidence of up to 1–1.5 feet. Around 20–25 houses have developed cracks. We assure people that all arrangements will be made to shift them to safer areas,” MLA Raju said.

Heavy rains have swollen rivers and triggered flash flood-like conditions across several districts, including Ramban. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to minimize further damage.
