J&K Police arrest two hybrid terrorists in Sopore; arms and ammunition seized

Sopore: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said they arrested two hybrid terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition during an operation in the Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sopore Police, 22 RR, and 179 Battalion CRPF apprehended the duo during a naka checkpoint at Sadeeq Colony, Mominabad Sopore. The naka had been set up following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of suspicious individuals.

During checks, two persons travelling from Fruit Mandi Sopore towards Ahat Baba Crossing attempted to flee after noticing the presence of security forces. The joint team swiftly intercepted and detained them.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Najar, son of Mohammad Akbar Najar, a resident of Mohalla Tawheed Colony Maazbugh, and Shabir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Sultan Mir, a resident of Brath Sopore. Police recovered incriminating materials including one pistol, one magazine, 20 live rounds, and two hand grenades from their possession, indicating their involvement in terror-related activities.

A case under FIR No. 253/2025 has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and investigation is underway. The J&K Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
