Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has busted a major inter-state and transnational terror module linked to the proscribed outfits Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), leading to the arrest of seven individuals, including two doctors, and the recovery of a massive cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives, officials said on Monday.
The operation was conducted jointly by the Faridabad Police and J&K Police, resulting in the seizure of 2,900 kg of improvised explosive device (IED) materials, along with other weapons and ammunition.
Among those arrested is Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie, a teacher at Al-Falah University, who was apprehended in Faridabad with around 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate and a large cache of weapons from his rented accommodation. Another doctor from Faridabad, earlier linked to an arms recovery case, was also among the accused.
“In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, J&K Police has dismantled an inter-state and transnational terror network connected with JeM and AGuH. The operation led to the arrest of key operatives and seizure of a massive cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during coordinated raids across J&K and other states,” a police spokesperson said.
The case originated on October 19, when JeM posters threatening security forces were found pasted in Bunpora Nowgam area of Srinagar. A case was registered under relevant sections of the UAPA, BNS, Explosive Substances Act, and Arms Act at Police Station Nowgam, and investigations were launched.
The probe revealed a “white-collar terror ecosystem” involving radicalised professionals and students in touch with handlers based in Pakistan and other countries, the spokesman said. The group reportedly used encrypted communication channels for indoctrination, coordination, fund transfers, and logistics.
Funds were allegedly raised through academic and professional networks, disguised as social or charitable initiatives. The accused were also found involved in identifying, recruiting, and radicalising individuals, as well as arranging finances, logistics, and explosive materials for IEDs.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, and Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid, all residents of Nowgam, Srinagar
Molvi Irfan Ahmad, Imam from Shopian
Zameer Ahmad Ahanger alias Mutlasha, resident of Wakura, Ganderbal
Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib, from Koil, Pulwama
Dr. Adeel, from Wanpora, Kulgam
During searches conducted in Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal, and Shopian, as well as in Faridabad (Haryana) and Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), police recovered a large quantity of incriminating material.
The seizures include a Chinese Star pistol, a Beretta pistol, an AK-56 rifle, an AK Krinkov rifle, and ammunition, along with 2,900 kg of explosive material comprising chemicals, reagents, electronic circuits, batteries, timers, wires, remote controls, and metal sheets.
The spokesperson added that the financial investigation into fund flows is ongoing and that several more individuals connected to the module have been identified and will be apprehended soon.
