Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday intensified its crackdown on the terror ecosystem in the Valley, conducting raids at nearly 500 locations linked to terrorist associates and individuals affiliated with banned organisations, including Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), officials said.

According to police officials, the large-scale operation was launched following credible intelligence inputs indicating that JeI-linked elements were attempting to revive their activities under new fronts.

Raids were carried out across all 10 districts of Kashmir — Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama, and Shopian — targeting the residences and premises of JeI members, overground workers (OGWs), and other terror associates.

Officials said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem and its support networks at the grassroots level.

In Srinagar, police conducted extensive searches at around 150 locations, focusing on individuals allegedly involved in facilitating or abetting terror-related activities. The raids were conducted under investigations related to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). During the searches, police seized documents, digital devices, and other incriminating materials, which are now under examination as part of a wider intelligence-gathering and counter-terrorism effort.

In Kulgam, over 200 locations were searched as part of intensified operations over the past four days. Police said more than 400 cordon and search operations (CASOs) have been carried out in the district recently, targeting OGWs, Jammu and Kashmir Nationals operating from Pakistan (JKNOP), and hideouts linked to active or slain terrorists. Nearly 500 individuals connected to these groups were questioned, with many placed under preventive detention at District Jail Mattan in Anantnag.

In north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, particularly in Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad, police launched a coordinated operation with other security agencies, conducting raids at over 30 locations. A substantial cache of incriminating material — including documents, printed content, and digital gadgets with links to banned organisations — was recovered. Several suspects are being interrogated to determine their involvement in unlawful activities.

Similar raids were carried out in Ganderbal and other districts of central and south Kashmir, where large quantities of documents and digital evidence connected to banned outfits were seized. Multiple individuals have been detained for questioning.

Officials described the sweeping operations as part of the police’s sustained preventive strategy aimed at dismantling separatist-terror networks, cutting off their ideological, financial, and logistical links, and maintaining peace and normalcy across Jammu and Kashmir.
