Srinagar: Police on Wednesday intensified their crackdown on the terror ecosystem in Kashmir, conducting raids at over 300 locations linked to individuals associated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), officials said.
According to police, the large-scale operation followed credible intelligence inputs suggesting that JeI-linked elements were attempting to revive their activities under new fronts.
Raids were carried out across Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla, and Ganderbal districts, targeting the residences and premises of JeI members and their associates. Officials said the action is part of sustained efforts to dismantle the terror-support structure at the grassroots level.
In Kulgam district, over 200 locations were searched as part of an intensified drive over the past four days, during which police conducted more than 400 cordon and search operations (CASOs). These operations targeted overground workers (OGWs), individuals linked with the Jammu and Kashmir Nationals Operating from Pakistan (JKNOP), former encounter sites, and suspected terrorist hideouts.
Police said around 500 individuals affiliated with JKNOP and other banned outfits were interrogated, with several bound down or detained under preventive laws and shifted to District Jail Mattan, Anantnag. Incriminating material and digital devices were seized during the searches.
In north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a coordinated operation was carried out in Sopore, Zaingeer, and Rafiabad, where raids were conducted at over 30 locations with the assistance of other security agencies. A substantial quantity of incriminating documents, digital gadgets, and printed content linked to the banned organisation was recovered. Several individuals were detained for questioning regarding their involvement in unlawful and separatist activities.
Similarly, in Ganderbal, extensive search operations were conducted at multiple sites associated with the proscribed organisation. A large quantity of incriminating materials and digital devices was recovered, and several suspects were taken into custody for further interrogation.
Officials said the operations are part of a preventive strategy to dismantle the terror-separatist ecosystem, disrupt its ideological, financial, and logistical networks, and ensure peace and stability in the region.
Parallel raids were also conducted in Shopian and Pulwama, where several JeI members were questioned and bound down under legal provisions, officials added.
