Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday foiled a terror plot by arresting three individuals, including a non-local, from Srinagar and recovering arms and ammunition from their possession, an official said.

According to a police spokesperson, a motorcycle without a registration number was intercepted during routine checking near Mamta Chowk in the Dalgate area. When signalled to stop, the rider and two pillion passengers attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by alert police personnel.

The arrested persons have been identified as Shah Mutayib and Kamran Hassan Shah — both residents of Koolipora Khanyar in Srinagar — and Mohammad Nadeem, a native of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, currently residing at Kawa Mohalla, Khanyar.

During the search, police recovered a country-made pistol and nine live rounds from their possession, the spokesperson said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the trio was planning to carry out a terror-related act in the locality using the recovered weapon and ammunition.

A case has been registered at Khanyar Police Station under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Arms Act, and the Motor Vehicles Act, the spokesperson added.
