Chennai: Jammu and Kashmir’s remarkable rise in Indian domestic cricket gathered further momentum as they scripted history in Delhi on Tuesday, defeating the hosts by seven wickets — their first-ever win against Delhi in Ranji Trophy history.
Chasing a target of 179, J&K rode on opener Qamran Iqbal’s unbeaten 133, a career-best innings that anchored a calm and confident chase.
The victory was built on strong performances across both innings. Auqib Nabi set the tone with a fiery 5 for 35 in Delhi’s first innings, while skipper Paras Dogra held the batting together with a composed 106. Abdul Samad chipped in with a quickfire 85 to keep the scoreboard moving. When Delhi threatened to fight back, young Vanshaj Sharma delivered a decisive spell of 6 for 68, ensuring J&K’s firm control of the match.
This marked Jammu and Kashmir’s second outright win of the season, continuing a trend of upsetting heavyweight teams such as Mumbai, Baroda, Rajasthan, and Vidarbha in recent years.
The result lifted J&K to second place in the Elite Group D table, just behind leaders Mumbai.
