Jammu and Kashmir’s Republic Day tableau this year will shine a spotlight on the Union Territory’s vibrant cultural heritage, with a special focus on its world-famous handicrafts and traditional folk dances. Officials said the tableau has been designed to represent the depth and diversity of J&K’s artistic traditions, including celebrated crafts such as Pashmina weaving, papier-mâché, Kani shawls, wood carving, and copperware. The display will also feature performers showcasing the region’s folk dance forms, bringing the colours and rhythms of Kashmiri and Dogra culture to the national stage. According to officials involved in the project, the tableau aims to highlight the craftsmanship that has shaped J&K’s cultural identity for centuries while giving national visibility to local artisans and performers. The selection of elements was finalised after several rounds of review by the Ministry of Defence’s expert committee. The tableau will roll down Kartavya Path during the Republic Day parade on January 26, where it is expected to draw national attention for its blend of tradition, artistry, and live cultural expression.
