JAMMU: To promote cleanliness and environmental awareness, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today organized a Plog Run under the Swachhata Hi Seva and Seva Parv 2025 initiatives. The event aimed to encourage citizens to adopt hygienic practices and collectively contribute to a clean, green, and healthy Jammu.
The run began at 9:00 AM from Government Sarwal Hospital and concluded at Tali Morh. More than a fitness activity, the plog run combined physical exercise with social responsibility, as participants collected litter along the route, reinforcing the message of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The event was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rakesh Minhas, who lauded the enthusiastic participation of students, health workers, and local residents. The run was also graced by MLA Jammu East, Yudhvir Sethi, MLA Jammu West, Arvind Gupta, and Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, JMC, who motivated the participants.
A large number of doctors and staff from Government Sarwal Hospital, students from various schools and colleges, and volunteers from local communities actively participated. Students performed songs, slogans, and cultural presentations emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and community engagement. Their energetic chants of “Don’t litter the streets—Use dustbins only” and “Keep Jammu Clean and Green” inspired the public along the route.
Participants collected garbage in eco-friendly bags, setting a positive example for citizens and encouraging them to make cleanliness a way of life. Local shopkeepers, residents, Swachhta Champions, brand ambassadors, and pedestrians joined the movement, urging greater mindfulness in waste disposal.
At the conclusion of the run, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas highlighted the significance of such initiatives in raising public awareness and changing mindsets. He stated, “Cleanliness cannot be achieved by government efforts alone; it requires the active cooperation of every citizen. Programs like Swachhata Hi Seva and Seva Parv should reach every ward and colony in Jammu to instill a culture of cleanliness.”
Dr. Devansh Yadav thanked the participants for their spirited involvement, emphasizing the role of youth as torchbearers for such campaigns. “Our children and youth are the real ambassadors of cleanliness. Their energy and commitment will guide society toward responsible civic practices. JMC is determined to spread awareness across the city so that Jammu sets an example as one of the cleanest cities in the country,” he said.
Both MLA Yudhvir Sethi and MLA Arvind Gupta praised JMC and citizens for their efforts, urging wider participation in cleanliness drives. They noted that every small step taken by individuals contributes to a larger movement toward a healthy and progressive Jammu.
The plog run concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, where participants vowed to continue promoting the Swachh Bharat Mission in their neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces. The event served as both a reminder of civic responsibility and a celebration of collective action, unity, and pride in the city.
With enthusiastic citizen participation and strong leadership support, JMC reaffirmed its commitment to continue organizing awareness drives, cleanliness campaigns, and public engagement activities, steering Jammu toward its goal of becoming a model clean and green city.
