JMC Cracks Down on Illegal Constructions, Appeals to Public to Follow Municipal Regulations
JAMMU: Under the directions of the Commissioner and direct supervision of the Joint Commissioner (R&E), the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today launched a major enforcement drive targeting illegal constructions and encroachments within city limits. The operation reflects the JMC’s commitment to ensuring compliance with municipal laws, planned urban development, and public health standards.
Sealing of Unauthorized Restaurant in Sainik Colony
As part of the drive, the JMC sealed a restaurant named “The Street” in Sainik Colony for operating without valid municipal permissions and licenses, in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. The Enforcement Wing executed the sealing after following due legal process.
Demolition of Illegal Encroachments on Canal Road
Simultaneously, the JMC carried out a demolition drive along Canal Road, removing numerous illegal shanties (jhuggis) constructed on state land. These encroachments obstruct public access, hamper infrastructure development, and contribute to unsanitary conditions, posing serious public health risks.
Public Advisory
JMC has urged citizens, commercial establishments, and builders to strictly adhere to municipal regulations. All construction, commercial activity, or land-use changes must be preceded by obtaining the necessary building permissions, trade licenses, and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the JMC. Non-compliance will attract strict action, including sealing and demolition.
The public has also been advised to avoid encroaching on public land, including roads, parks, and drainage channels. Illegal settlements compromise sanitation, public safety, and the city’s aesthetics. Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is a shared responsibility.
The enforcement drives saw active participation from the Deputy Commissioners (North/South), Enforcement Officers, and Inspectors of the JMC.
