JMC launches decisive drive against nallah encroachments in Trikuta Nagar
JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has taken a firm stand against the rampant encroachment of city nallahs (drains/water channels), launching a targeted demolition drive to restore their natural flow and reduce flood risks.
During the drive, JMC officials successfully removed illegal shuttering and unauthorized construction over a vital nallah in Trikuta Nagar, which was obstructing water flow and posing a significant threat to nearby properties.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards such violations, the JMC emphasized that encroachments on or near nallahs severely compromise public safety and infrastructure.
“These water channels are critical for effective rainwater drainage, particularly during the monsoon season. Any blockage reduces their carrying capacity, leading to waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas, and damage to property. Such illegal constructions are not just unlawful—they directly contribute to urban flooding,” JMC authorities stated.
The Corporation warned that the removal of the Trikuta Nagar encroachment should serve as a clear message that no activity endangering the city’s drainage network will be tolerated.
The enforcement action was carried out under the directions of the JMC Commissioner and the direct supervision of the Joint Commissioner (R&E).
The JMC has appealed to citizens, residents’ welfare associations, and business establishments to extend full cooperation in safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring a flood-free Jammu.
