JMC’s Sustained Anti-Dengue Drive Leads to 62% Drop in Cases Across Jammu City

JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has achieved a major public health milestone, recording a 62% reduction in dengue cases this year compared to 2024, thanks to its sustained and proactive anti-dengue campaign.

As per official figures, 2,932 dengue cases were reported in Jammu city till October 28, 2024, while the number dropped sharply to 1,097 cases during the same period in 2025 — a testament to JMC’s targeted interventions and effective disease-control measures.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, the JMC has conducted four major anti-dengue and anti-chikungunya campaigns over the past four months. Dr. Yadav has been personally overseeing the operations, directing the Joint Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) and Health Officer to intensify preventive efforts and ensure coordinated action across all wards.

Extensive fogging and spraying drives were carried out across all 75 municipal wards in collaboration with the Malaria Department of Health, following a well-structured roster. The campaign began in mid-July and culminated with a special fogging drive on October 11. Regular review meetings were held to monitor progress, strengthen accountability, and sustain public participation.

To boost awareness, JMC also utilized its garbage collection vehicles for public announcements, educating residents about preventive measures and encouraging community involvement in eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

Expressing satisfaction over the results, Dr. Yadav said the remarkable decline reflects the collective efforts of the administration and citizens alike.

“Our teams have worked tirelessly in every ward to control mosquito breeding and raise awareness. I sincerely thank the citizens of Jammu for their cooperation in maintaining cleanliness and preventing water stagnation around their homes. Together, we’ve proven that community participation is the strongest defense against disease,” he said.

The Commissioner reaffirmed JMC’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and healthier Jammu, urging residents to continue supporting the Corporation’s initiatives by segregating waste, maintaining sanitation, and preventing mosquito breeding.
