JU organizes one-day meet on “Developing opportunities in exploring entrepreneurship in medicinal plants sector”

Jammu: Department of Botany in collaboration with AYUSH and J&K Medicinal Plants Board organised a one day meet entitled “Developing opportunities in exploring entrepreneurship in medicinal plants sector” in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Botany.
Dr. Mohan Singh, Director AYUSH J&K, CEO J&K Medicinal Plants Board was the Chief Guest for the occasion while Prof. Seema Langer, Dean, Life Sciences was the guest of Honour. Suresh Sharma, Deputy Director AYUSH welcomed the participants and elaborated upon the relevance of Medicinal Plant sector as an enterprise for youth of JK UT.
Dr. Wahid ul Hassan, Technical officer, J&K Medicinal Plant Board apprised the audience about the potential of Medicinal Plant sector in employment generation in J&K.  Dr. Mohan Singh emphasized on the collaborative approach of University Departments and AYUSH in tapping the potential of medicinal wealth of UT of Jammu and Kashmir. He also called upon young botany scholars to venture a carrier in Medicinal Plants cultivation and processing.
Prof. Susheel Verma, Head Department of Botany thanked J&K Medicinal Plants Board for the offer of collaboration and also elaborated on Medicinal plant wealth of UT of J&K and its potential towards economic development of the UT as well country as whole.
Prof. Seema Langer emphasized on the role of skill development in view of National Education Policy. She stressed upon young students to set up their own enterprises and generate employment. There were three expert talks by Prof. Namrata Sharma from Department of Botany, University of Jammu; Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist and incharge KVK Samba and Dr. Puneet Choudhary Chief Scientist KVK R.S. Pura on different aspects of Medicinal plant cultivation and entrepreneurship. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Monika Gupta with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Altaf Mir.
