SRINAGAR: A junior resident doctor at the Associated Hospital of Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara, has been suspended with immediate effect after a video surfaced on social media showing a patient lying unattended on a trolley outside the hospital premises.
The video, which went viral within hours, triggered widespread public concern and criticism, prompting swift administrative action. Officials said the incident raised serious questions about patient care, supervision and internal monitoring mechanisms at the hospital.
Authorities said the suspended doctor was also holding the additional charge of Hospital Security In-charge, which further added to the seriousness of the matter.
The suspension will remain in force pending the outcome of a rapid inquiry ordered by the administration to ascertain responsibility and identify lapses, officials said.
A five-member committee comprising senior doctors and administrative officials has been constituted to conduct a time-bound investigation into the incident.
The committee has been directed to examine the circumstances leading to the episode and submit its report within one day.
Hospital authorities said further action will be taken strictly in accordance with rules based on the findings and recommendations of the inquiry committee.
