Kathmandu: Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday amid massive anti-government protests sweeping the country, officials said.
Oli stepped down shortly after hundreds of demonstrators stormed his office, chanting anti-government slogans.
Earlier in the day, protesters set fire to the Prime Minister’s private residence in Balkot, demanding accountability for Monday’s violence. At least 19 people were killed during the clashes that erupted over the government’s ban on social media platforms.
In the wake of the unrest, the government revoked the ban late Monday night.
