New Delhi: India’s Arjun Kadhe and Vijay Sundar Prashanth pulled off a major upset by defeating second seeds Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner in straight sets to reach the semifinals of the Swiss Open in Gstaad, Switzerland.
The unseeded Indian duo prevailed 6-3, 7-6(5) in the quarterfinals of the €596,035 clay court event, toppling the higher-ranked German pair with a composed and resilient performance.
Kadhe, who previously clinched an ATP 250 title in Almaty alongside Rithvik Bollipalli, played a pivotal role in the victory.
The Indians broke early to lead 3-1 in the opening set but briefly surrendered the advantage by dropping serve. However, they regained momentum, broke again for 5-3, and Kadhe served out the set despite a minor hiccup.
The second set saw both pairs hold serve throughout, pushing the contest into a tiebreaker. After trailing 0-3 following Kadhe’s two lost service points, the Indian pair bounced back impressively, capitalizing on errors from Schnaitter to level the score.
With the tiebreak finely poised at 5-4, Wallner faltered on his serve, allowing Kadhe and Prashanth to seal the match and book their place in the semifinals.
