JAMMU: The annual three-day Kailash Kund Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, has been reduced to symbolic rituals this year due to recent cloudburst incidents and an adverse weather forecast, a senior official said on Tuesday.
Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh urged devotees not to attempt the pilgrimage, which usually attracts thousands of participants from across the Union Territory and beyond.
The Kailash Kund Yatra, held at an altitude of 14,700 feet, is regarded as one of the most challenging pilgrimages. Pilgrims typically trek 18 km across the steep Kailash mountain range to reach the high-altitude temple, where they take a holy dip in the icy ‘Kund’ lake and seek blessings of deity Vasuki Nag.
