Kajol’s Maa Faces Tough Competition From Vishnu Manchu’s Kannappa At Box Office

Kajol’s mythological horror film Maa generated quite a buzz before its release as the actress returned to the screens after three years. But the film had a slow start when it released on Friday, June 27, however, it picked up a little pace over the weekend. Now, Maa has collected a total of Rs 19.90 crore in its first four days, according to the industry tracker Sacnilk. While the film isn’t minting huge amounts, the mix of horror and mythology has won the audiences’ hearts.

Maa opened on a modest note with Rs 4.65 crore on its first day, June 27. Collections grew slightly on day 2, adding Rs 6 crore. Despite getting mixed reviews, the film continued the upward trend over the weekend and earned Rs 6.71 crore on day 3. On Monday, the film saw a significant dip, adding approximately Rs 2.25 crore to its total, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.

The film has received a mixed critical reception, leading to an average Hindi occupancy of 12.67 per cent on Monday. The morning shows occupancy stood at 6.97 per cent, afternoon shows picked up to 14.46 per cent, and evening shows at 14.20 per cent. The night shows performed the best, with 15.05 per cent.

The mythological horror film Maa brings together an ensemble cast of talented actors, including Kajol, Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma and Ronit Roy. It also features Jitin Gulati, Gopal Singh, Yaaneea Bharadwaj, Surjyasikha Das and Roopkatha Chakraborty in key roles for the dramatic clash.

In the film, Kajol takes on the fierce role of a fearless mother who battles supernatural powers to protect her daughter from an evil entity. The film, directed by Vishal Furia, blends myth and mystery, relying heavily on the mother-daughter equation amid supernatural troubles.

Produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Devgn Films and Jio Studios, the film released in theatres on June 27.

Meanwhile, Maa has faced stiff competition at the box office from Vishnu Manchu’s star-studded film Kannappa, which features special appearances by stars like Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal and Prabhas. While Maa outperformed Kannappa on day 3 with Rs 6.71 crore versus Rs 5.66 crore, the latter regained momentum on day 4, collecting Rs 2.25 crore compared to Maa’s Rs 2.25 crore.

As of now, Kajol’s horror drama stands at Rs 19.90 crore, while Kannappa has pulled ahead with Rs 25.90 crore over the same four-day period.
