Kashmir Crime Branch Registers Four Individuals in Land Fraud Case

Srinagar,: The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Kashmir has registered an FIR against four individuals in connection with a case of land fraud and criminal conspiracy, officials said on Tuesday.

An official spokesperson identified the accused as Khurshid Ahmad Bhat (Patwari), son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, resident of Fatepora, Ganderbal; Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat, resident of Fatepora, Ganderbal; Abdul Rashid Parray, son of Abdul Gani Parray, resident of Pandach, Ganderbal; and Sajid Rashid Parray, son of Abdul Rashid Parray, resident of Pandach, Ganderbal.

According to the spokesperson, the case followed a written complaint alleging that the accused, led by Khurshid Ahmad Bhat, fraudulently posed as landowners and entered into an agreement to sell a plot measuring 7 kanals and 2 marlas in Mouza Nuner, Ganderbal. The land was falsely represented as belonging to them, but it was later found to be owned by a migrant Kashmiri Pandit and managed under a power of attorney by a third party.

Before realizing the fraud, the complainant had already paid Rs. 1.19 crore of the total Rs. 2.76 crore consideration, the statement added.

Preliminary investigations indicate a criminal conspiracy involving forged documents, impersonation, and deliberate deception, establishing prima facie offences under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The spokesperson confirmed that the matter is being taken seriously, and a case has been formally registered at the Police Station, Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch Kashmir. Further investigation is ongoing.
