Srinagar: Heavy rain lashed several parts of Kashmir on Monday evening, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion in some areas of Srinagar, officials said.

Water accumulation was reported on Residency Road, TRC Chowk, and Dal Gate, among other locations, causing difficulties for commuters and shopkeepers. Vehicles in certain areas had to navigate through flooded streets.

Intermittent rainfall continued in parts of the Valley. The Meteorological Department warned that heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds were likely over Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Budgam. It advised residents to avoid electric poles, old trees, and unstable structures, and cautioned against boating or riding ‘shikaras’ on water bodies, including Dal Lake.

Officials also reported heavy rainfall in parts of south Kashmir. A probable cloudburst in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, caused a rise in water levels in the Akad stream. Fortunately, there were no casualties or property damage despite the flash-flood-like situation.

The Jhelum River and other water bodies in the Valley were flowing well below the danger mark.

The weather office said the Valley is expected to remain generally cloudy on Tuesday and Wednesday, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms. Moderate to heavy rainfall is particularly likely over Anantnag and Kulgam, especially between Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon.
