Srinagar, November 30, 2025: Cold wave conditions have gripped the Kashmir Valley as temperatures dropped sharply across the region. The southern district of Shopian recorded the season’s lowest temperature at -6.6°C, making it the coldest place in the Valley.
According to the Meteorological Department, night temperatures fell well below the freezing point in most districts. Srinagar recorded a minimum of -3.2°C, while Gulmarg stood at -5.0°C and Pahalgam at -4.8°C. The sharp dip has led to partial freezing of water bodies, including the Dal Lake, and icy conditions on roads.
Officials said the cold wave is expected to persist, with further drop in temperatures likely in the coming days. Residents have been advised to take precautions against frost and icy surfaces, particularly during early morning and late evening hours.
The prevailing conditions mark the onset of peak winter in Kashmir, with the Valley bracing for the traditional ‘Chillai Kalan’ period beginning in December, known for its harsh cold and heavy snowfall.
