Srinagar: The much-awaited Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K) Cycling Expedition was ceremoniously flagged off today from TRC Stadium, Srinagar, by Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul.

Organized to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, the expedition celebrates the ideals of national unity and integration championed by the Iron Man of India.

A total of 150 cyclists from across the country — including 20 women and one participant from Kashmir, Rafiq Ahmad — have set out on this extraordinary 18-day journey, covering 4,249 kilometres from the pristine valleys of Kashmir to the southernmost tip of Kanyakumari.

Speaking at the flag-off, Nuzhat Gul said, “The K2K expedition is not merely a test of endurance but a tribute to India’s unity in diversity. Beginning this journey from the land of Kashmir, the crown of India, adds deeper significance — symbolizing strength, inclusivity, and the nation’s collective resolve to stay united and fit.”

Traversing through varied terrains, climates, and cultures, the expedition embodies the message of “One Nation, One Spirit, One Journey,” inspiring youth to embrace fitness, resilience, and patriotism.

The initiative is being organized with the support of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, Fit India Movement, Sports Authority of India, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. It also seeks to promote the Fit India Campaign and encourage an active, healthy lifestyle.

The K2K Cycling Expedition stands as a vibrant symbol of how sports unite hearts and bridge distances — from the snow-clad peaks of Kashmir to the sunlit shores of Kanyakumari — connecting India in motion, spirit, and purpose.

The flag-off ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from young athletes, sports lovers, and local citizens who cheered on the cyclists as they embarked on their inspiring journey from the heart of Srinagar, carrying the hopes and goodwill of the entire nation.
