Srinagar, December 1 — The Kashmir Valley witnessed a fresh spell of snowfall today, with Zojila Pass and adjoining higher reaches receiving a significant cover of snow as freezing temperatures gripped the region.

Officials said the snowfall began early in the morning at Zojila, Sonamarg, and other high-altitude areas, leading to slippery road conditions and temporary disruption of traffic movement along the Srinagar–Leh highway. Snow clearance operations have been initiated to ensure safe passage for vehicles.

The Meteorological Department confirmed that temperatures across the Valley have dropped sharply, with several places recording sub-zero conditions. Srinagar city itself experienced a cold wave, while higher reaches remained under heavy frost.

Local residents and tourists welcomed the snowfall, describing it as the season’s first major spell in the region. Authorities, however, urged caution, advising travellers to avoid unnecessary movement along mountainous routes until clearance operations are completed.

Officials added that more snowfall is expected in the coming days as western disturbances continue to affect Jammu and Kashmir, with the Valley bracing for an extended cold wave.
