Saharanpur: A doctor employed at a private hospital here has been arrested and handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly putting up posters supporting the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar, an official said on Friday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Vyom Bindal identified the accused as Adil Ahmed, a resident of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir, who had been working at a private hospital in Saharanpur.

“He was taken into custody by Srinagar Police on Thursday in connection with a case registered there,” Bindal said.

He added that several individuals from Jammu and Kashmir are employed in private nursing homes and hospitals in Saharanpur, and the local intelligence unit has been alerted to verify their credentials.

According to police sources, a case was recently registered in Srinagar after posters promoting Jaish-e-Mohammed surfaced in several parts of the city. During the investigation, CCTV footage revealed a man putting up the posters, later identified as Adil Ahmed from Anantnag.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police tracked the accused’s location to Saharanpur. A team from Srinagar, with assistance from local police and the Special Operations Group, raided the private hospital on Ambala Road and arrested him.

Ahmed was subsequently produced before a court, which granted his transit remand to the Srinagar Police, who have taken him back for further investigation, officials said.
