Srinagar: Kashmiri Pandits and other Hindus in the region gathered at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium on Thursday to celebrate Dussehra, the festival symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
Giant effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad were set ablaze on the stadium’s practice grounds amid loud cheers from the crowd, officials said.
The venue buzzed with festive spirit as firecrackers lit up the sky and sweets were distributed among attendees.
A significant number of Muslims, including PDP leader Iltija Mufti, also joined to witness the celebrations, the officials added.
The event, organized by the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti, saw the organisers express gratitude to the administration and locals for their support.
Earlier, a ‘shobha yatra’ procession was held from a temple in Indira Nagar to the Dussehra venue, an event that was revived in 2023 after a 33-year hiatus.
