SRINAGAR: Fresh snowfall covered several popular tourist destinations and higher reaches of Kashmir on Tuesday, while the plains experienced rainfall, officials said.
The wet weather caused a significant drop in daytime temperatures across the valley.
Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Aru Valley, Chandanwari, and Kokernag were among the areas that received snowfall. Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal Road in Shopian district and Zojila Pass along the Srinagar-Leh highway also recorded fresh snow, leading to temporary road closures, officials added.
Other high-altitude areas in Jammu and Kashmir, including Sinthan Top in Anantnag district, Affarwat in Gulmarg, and Razdan Pass in Gurez Valley, also saw fresh snowfall. Meanwhile, the plains, including Srinagar city, witnessed light to moderate rainfall.
Daytime temperatures across the valley fell sharply, with Srinagar recording a maximum of 12.5°C on Monday, down from the usual 25.5°C—a drop of 13 degrees.
The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain and occasional snowfall in higher reaches until Tuesday afternoon, with conditions expected to improve thereafter.
