Kathua Cloudburst: CM Omar Abdullah mourns lives lost, orders immediate relief measures

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday directed the administration to implement relief, rescue, and evacuation measures to ensure the safety of residents in Kathua district following a cloudburst and landslide.

The incident, which occurred during the night between Saturday and Sunday, struck Jodh Ghati village in Rajbagh, resulting in the deaths of four people and the rescue of six others. The cloudburst also disrupted access to the village and caused damage to land and property.

“The Chief Minister has expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives and the damage caused by landslides in several parts of Kathua, including Jodh Khad and Juthana, which claimed four lives and left many injured. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, and assured all necessary assistance,” the Chief Minister’s office said in a statement on X.

The office added that Omar Abdullah has instructed the administration to carry out immediate relief, rescue, and evacuation operations to support the affected families and ensure their safety.
