Jammu: A notorious drug peddler was arrested under the stringent PIT-NDPS Act in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official reported.
Abhishek Sharma, a resident of Main Bazaar, Kathua, is allegedly involved in multiple drug-related cases and is named in four FIRs registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at different police stations, the official added.
The arrest warrant under Section 3 of the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, and executed by GRP Kathua, he said. Sharma has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
Highlighting GRP Jammu’s recent enforcement efforts, the official stated that in less than a year, the police have registered 23 FIRs under the NDPS Act, arrested 22 accused, apprehended 13 absconders, and booked two others under the PIT-NDPS Act.
