Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan’s province most affected by militancy, has witnessed a sharp rise in terrorist violence this year.
A police report cited by Geo News revealed that from January to August 2025, KP experienced 605 terror-related incidents, causing heavy casualties among both civilians and security forces.
During this period, 138 civilians were killed and 352 wounded, while the police suffered 79 fatalities and 130 injuries. These numbers underscore the severe and ongoing impact of terrorism on communities and law enforcement in the region.
In August alone, the province recorded 129 terror incidents, resulting in 17 civilian deaths and 51 injuries. Security forces also faced significant losses, with 13 police personnel killed and 46 wounded. Authorities linked 351 suspects to various attacks, killing 32 militants and arresting five.
District-wise, Bannu reported the highest number of incidents at 42, followed by North Waziristan (15), South Waziristan (14), and Dir (11). These historically militant-prone areas continue to experience persistent violence despite years of counterterrorism efforts.
The latest data comes shortly after a deadly assault on the Frontier Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in KP, where six personnel of the Pakistan Army and FC were martyred. According to the military’s media wing, five militants attempted to storm the compound using an explosive-laden vehicle, but all attackers were neutralized by security forces.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported that June alone saw 78 terror attacks across Pakistan, claiming roughly 100 lives—including 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two peace committee members—with nearly 189 others injured, Geo News reported.
These alarming figures highlight a resurgence of militancy in KP and across Pakistan, raising pressing concerns about the effectiveness of the state’s counterterrorism strategies and overall security preparedness.
