Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday announced the cancellation of the “At Home” tea party scheduled for Friday evening.
The decision comes in the wake of the tragic cloudburst in Kishtwar. In a post on X, Abdullah also stated that cultural events planned as part of the Independence Day celebrations tomorrow will be called off.
“In light of the tragedy caused by the cloudburst in Kishtwar, I have decided to cancel the ‘At Home’ tea party tomorrow evening. We have also chosen not to hold the cultural events during the morning Independence Day celebrations. The formal proceedings—speech, march past, etc.—will continue as scheduled,” he wrote.
Notably, Omar Abdullah is set to take the salute tomorrow at Bakshi Stadium for the 79th Independence Day celebrations, where authorities have ensured adequate security arrangements.
