SRINAGAR: From rowing a shikara on the picturesque Dal Lake to securing a bronze in kayaking at the National Games in Uttarakhand earlier this year, young Mohsin Ali Kand has charted an inspiring journey. His rise reached new heights on Thursday as he clinched the gold medal at the Khelo India Water Sports Festival here.
The 18-year-old brought pride to Jammu and Kashmir by topping the podium in the men’s 1000m kayaking event, finishing with a time of 4:12.41. He outpaced Odisha’s Naoram James Singh (4:14.68) and Madhya Pradesh’s Mayank (4:23.28), who claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the men’s canoe singles 1000m event, Vishal Kumar of Uttar Pradesh captured gold with a timing of 4:30.59. Krishna Jat of Madhya Pradesh took silver (4:31.36), while Mohammed Hussain of Jammu & Kashmir earned bronze, finishing in 4:32.83.
