SRINAGAR: The anti-terror operation in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir entered its 10th day on Sunday, with security forces tightening the cordon around the remaining militants.
“The operation is ongoing, and forces are working to close in on the terrorists’ positions,” an official said, adding that the ultras appear highly trained in jungle warfare and are using the dense foliage to evade drone surveillance.
Since the encounter began on August 1 in the Akhal forest area, two Army soldiers have been killed and nine others injured. This marks the longest anti-terror operation in the Kashmir Valley in recent years. Two terrorists have also been neutralised, though their identities and affiliations are yet to be confirmed.
Top security officials, including J&K Police chief Nalin Prabhat and Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, are overseeing the operation round-the-clock. Drones, helicopters, and para commandos have been deployed to locate and eliminate the remaining militants in the forested terrain.
