Kupwara: The Forest Department has taken strict action against three habitual timber smugglers under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kupwara district.
The move was formalized through orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara, following recommendations from the Divisional Forest Officer of the Kamraj Forest Division. The individuals were found repeatedly involved in illegal timber smuggling, activities that threaten both public order and the region’s ecological balance.
Irfan Ali Shah, Conservator of Forests, Kashmir North Circle, stated that the action sends a strong and clear message to offenders. “The Forest Department, working closely with the district administrations of Kupwara and Baramulla, is committed to protecting our green assets. We will take decisive action against anyone who harms our forests,” he said.
The department also urged citizens to support these efforts by reporting any suspicious or illegal activities to the nearest forest office.
