Srinagar: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday attached a property worth around Rs 25 lakh belonging to an alleged drug peddler, police said.
In a strong move against drug trafficking, the Handwara police seized the property under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, as part of ongoing efforts to target the proceeds of illegal drug activities, a police spokesperson said.
The confiscated asset is a double-storey residential house with an attic, located in the Magam area of Handwara in north Kashmir. Valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh, the property belonged to Hilal Ahmad Rather and was reportedly constructed using funds obtained through drug trafficking, the spokesperson added.
Rather is named in a major NDPS case involving a commercial quantity of contraband, with charges framed under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
“Following a thorough investigation and adherence to legal procedures, the property has been formally attached,” the spokesperson said.
