Leh: Ladakh Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday reviewed the law and order situation in the Union Territory, assuring residents that restrictions imposed after last week’s violence will be lifted in a phased manner.

For the past week, Gupta has been holding high-level meetings twice daily—morning and evening—following the September 24 clashes, which left four people dead and many injured during protests demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Officials updated the Lt Governor on the latest security developments and the measures taken to restore peace. During Wednesday’s meetings, Gupta praised the tireless efforts of security forces and the civil administration in bringing normalcy under challenging circumstances, and he commended the patience and cooperation of the people of Ladakh.

Reviewing welfare measures, he inquired about the condition of those still receiving treatment at the government hospital and directed authorities to provide the best possible medical care. He also instructed the Leh Deputy Commissioner to ensure all humanitarian aid and financial support are available for individuals requiring advanced treatment outside the UT, so that no one faces hardship or neglect.

Urging citizens not to succumb to rumours or misinformation, the Lt Governor assured that the administration, in coordination with security forces, is fully committed to maintaining peace and order across Ladakh.

He reaffirmed that restrictions will be eased gradually once the situation stabilises. “Peace and development remain the top priorities of the administration. With the cooperation of the people, Ladakh will continue on the path of progress,” he said.
