New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre and the Union Territory of Ladakh on a petition filed by Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) and seeking his immediate release.
A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria, however, declined to pass any order on Wangchuk’s wife’s request for the grounds of his detention, and listed the matter for further hearing on October 14.
Wangchuk was detained under the stringent NSA on September 26, two days after protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status turned violent, leaving four people dead and 90 injured. He is currently lodged in Jodhpur Jail in Rajasthan.
