Odense: India enjoyed a strong start at the Denmark Open 2025 as men’s singles shuttler Lakshya Sen and the men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the pre-quarterfinals after winning their opening-round matches at the Jyske Bank Arena.
World No. 21 Lakshya Sen battled past Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen (world No. 28) 10-21, 21-8, 21-18 in a hard-fought encounter that lasted one hour and 19 minutes, as per Olympics.com. The Paris 2024 semi-finalist had a sluggish start, surrendering the first game, but bounced back emphatically in the second, allowing his opponent only eight points. In a tense decider, both players traded blows before Lakshya held his composure to clinch victory — his third win in four meetings against Nguyen.
In men’s doubles, the sixth-seeded pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty overcame Scotland’s Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley (world No. 41) 17-21, 21-11, 21-17 in a one-hour-four-minute thriller. After losing a close first game despite leading at the interval, the Indian duo regrouped to dominate the second and carried that momentum into the decider. Trailing 10-11 at the mid-game break, Satwik and Chirag switched gears to win 11 of the next 17 points, sealing their place in the pre-quarters.
Following runner-up finishes at the Hong Kong Open and China Masters last month, the Indian pair will be eyeing the title at this BWF Super 750 event.
Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, Mohit Jaglan and Lakshita Jaglan bowed out after a 21-14, 21-11 loss to Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil.
