Darbhanga: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the INDIA bloc, claiming that RJD chief Lalu Prasad wants to make his son Tejashwi Yadav the Chief Minister of Bihar, while Congress leader Sonia Gandhi wants her son Rahul Gandhi to become Prime Minister — “but both posts are not vacant.”

Addressing a rally in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, Shah branded the Mahagathbandhan as a ‘thug bandhan’ (alliance of cheats), alleging that Lalu Prasad was involved in fodder, bitumen, and land-for-jobs scams, while the Congress was mired in corruption worth ₹12 lakh crore.

The Home Minister said the Centre has banned the radical outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) and arrested its members, asserting that the NDA government will not allow them to be released. “Do you think RJD will keep PFI members in jail if it comes to power in Bihar?” he asked.

Highlighting the NDA’s welfare initiatives, Shah said the Centre provides free ration to 8.52 crore people in Bihar, has set up a Makhana Board, and offers 125 units of free electricity to domestic consumers.

He also announced that Darbhanga will soon get a metro rail, while an airport has already been built and an AIIMS is under construction.

Shah further said that a temple dedicated to Goddess Sita is being built in Mithila, and all places associated with her will be linked to the Ram circuit. “The NDA government gave official status to the Maithili language, and the Constitution has been translated into it,” he added, noting that a ₹500-crore centre is coming up in the region to preserve ancient manuscripts.
