Mendhar/Jammu: More than 30 structures, including residential houses and two government schools, have been damaged following land sinking in Kalaban village of Mendhar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said on Tuesday.
They said the sinking, triggered by incessant rains continuing intermittently for the past month, has created panic among villagers, forcing many to move to safer locations.
“So far, 30 houses, two schools, a mosque and a graveyard have suffered damage, while several other houses are under threat of cracks and possible collapse,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar, Imran Rashid Kataria, said.
He added that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and working to provide alternative accommodation for the displaced families.
“The land is still sinking, and our immediate priority is to relocate the affected families to safer places,” Kataria said.
