Mendhar/Jammu: A leopard was found dead on Saturday in a forested area near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.
The carcass was discovered in the Balnoi area of Mankote by a team of forest officials led by Range Officer Adrees Khan.
According to initial assessments, the leopard is believed to have died after triggering a landmine. Forward areas along the LoC are heavily mined as part of the anti-infiltration obstacle system designed to prevent terrorist movement across the border.
The carcass was later handed over to the wildlife protection department for postmortem examination and subsequent disposal, officials added.
