Leh: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting to evaluate the situation following protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status, which escalated into violent clashes with the police.
He underlined the importance of heightened vigilance, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and proactive measures to maintain peace, security, and public order across the Union Territory.
The Office of the Lt Governor, Ladakh, posted on X: “Lt Governor @KavinderGupta chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess the emerging situation across Ladakh, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance, seamless inter-agency coordination, & proactive measures to safeguard peace, security, & public order across UT.”
Earlier, Haji Ghulam Mustafa, Legal Adviser of the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance, condemned the violence during the protests. He noted that demonstrations over the past five years have been peaceful and highlighted the government’s cooperative approach during that period.
